NEIGHBORHOOD CONNECTIONS NEWSLETTER

August 2011

Hello Again Friends and Neighbors,

I first would like to offer a huge heartfelt thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who assisted in making
our 2ND Annual Chocolate Fest happen! A Second heartfelt thanks to all those friends and neighbors
who joined in the festivities thereby, contributing to the event’s success. We had over 700 people in
attendance.

Through your generosity we are a community supported agency. We do not have any state or federal
funding. This in many ways is a gift provided by you, our friends & neighbors that allow us to give as
much time as is necessary to our cliental. It is the gift that keeps on giving, for that generosity in turn
builds stronger & healthier communities. As obstacles to the success of some are removed, they are
then able to participate in the community building as well.

We are here every weekday Monday through Friday from 9-5. Please drop by and say Hello whether
you need assistance or not. We want to get to know all of you. We would like you stop by. We are
welcoming, drop by and see for yourselves.

We will be posting a board shortly in our waiting room called JOB CONNECTIONS. We often have
people calling in looking for workers and also callers looking for work. We quite simply will be posting
both and hoping it will help folks on each side of the equation find each other. So, if you are looking for
help or have a skill to offer, please let us know. The posting will be for paid employment. The positions
will probably be local and probably less than full time .

Fuel season is around the corner, many of you may be able to get State assistance. NOW IS THE TIME TO APPLY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE FULL BENEFITS. Late applications receive a reduced benefit. IT IS ALSO THE TIME TO APPLY FOR WEATHERIZATION TO YOUR HOME. THE SEVCA  WEATHERIZATION PEOPLE ARE SLOWER IN THE SUMMER. WEATHERIZATION WILL DEFINITELY REDUCE YOUR HEATING COSTS. DON’T DELAY! Call us at 824-4343 for more information.

Just a reminder, there is a computer available, in our office for filing benefit applications with the State
of Vermont. It has been provided by the State Department of Economic Services for your convenience.

A new session of our “HEALTHY CHOICES PROGRAM” WILL BE STARTING ON Tuesday August 23rd at 6:00pm at Flood Brook School. The program runs for ten weeks. For more information, please call 824-4343

Winter is not far off and it would be wonderful to have some young volunteers to stack wood or shovel
snow. We often get calls for assistance from our seniors. This task is not always feasible for many of
them, although pretty essential, when you reside in a snow belt.

Well, Folks always great chatting with you, check out our program and event tabs to see what else is
new and don’t forget to drop by. We are anxious to meet you and hear your suggestions.
